Good bang for the buck. Everything under $7-8. I ordered the combo appetizer plate. Got the samosa and idli combo. It was filling and flavorful, though I found the chutney for the idli to be on the spicier side. Otherwise, recommend this place

I wouldn't know 'authentic' South Indian food if it walked up and introduced itself to me, but my friend who is from South India took me here and said it's authentic, so I believe him:) This is definitely a 'local' kind of place where they are not catering to American tastes. When we came on a Monday night around 8:45, almost all the tables were filled, many families but also people eating alone. Very little in the way of decor except for an awesome wood-inlay of scenes of the Bhagavad Gita as you enter. There is no wait service, you order at the front, and things are brought out in styrofoam and plastic, which is kind of a turn off. The food is snacky, like finger foods, most of it fried.
There are no descriptions of the food on the menu, so either bring a friend who can explain things to you as I did or do some homework beforehand.:) Everything is vegetarian, though, so you're safe if you are vegetarian or vegan. I tried the Idlis (kind of like a spongy cake made with rice--it's probably the healthiest thing on the menu), which came with a coconut dipping sauce, as well as the masala dosa (a long, large, crispy fried crepe-like item stuffed with spiced potatoes and fried onions) and an amazingly bizarre balloon-like friend dough dish called Puri. The food was good, except for the bland Idlis everything is spicy.
It's worth a try! I wish they would switch over to washable plates and cutlery for eat-in, though. -

I'm happy that this place has way more customers than when I first visited two years ago. It is great to have fresh dosas in this part of the 'burbs, and the sambar is good. I have to say, though, that with the crowd, it took much longer to get our dosas than when we've come on weekdays. And now that I've experienced dosa nirvana at Dosa House in Saddle Brook, the dosas were not as delicious as I hoped. I was happy that they had pesarratu but it was nowhere near as good as at Dosa House. I'm sticking with four stars (really 3.5 but there isn't that option) b/c I imagine coming back, but it was more disappointing than past visits b/c of the length of time to get food, and b/c I've definitely had better dosas recently. Coming midday on a weekday, the masala dosas themselves are better than average and come quickly.

less price..good food and better option to dosa house
we were quite fed up with dosa house and wanted some alternative option. found this on route 46. glad we did.
my review is basically a comparison between this outlet and dosa house. this place was clean, not crowded though. this is one big restaurant not that fancy, very simple ambiance. They don't have much staff, so its order&pay at counter service. they will call your number and pick your order just like MC'D.
we ordered Mysore masala dosa and medu vada. medu vada was less oily ( the way I wanted). It was superb and so was Mysore masala dosa. sambhar is not for a refill like Dosa house but who cares, at least it was tasty and its sufficient for your meal. coconut chutney was also good.
I really liked the one big painting of MAHABHARATA carved on wood. I don't think I 'll go dosa house again (filthy, quality decreasing day by day, no service, will wait for your items for hours).
Dosa express is the place now for me and yes did I mention about price. price is relatively low than dosa house and the food is much better. I ll try their different rice dishes next time. -

I am shocked that this place is in business. They always manage to screw up order. The food takes hours to get to the table and comes uncooked or raw. This is not a place to bring a big group.
